Torotörö is a doubly melty sensation on the tongue. A liquid language that seeps across skins, and oozes in the gaps— a playfield, on a syrupy scale between fish and bull. It’s a bodily invitation to embrace the multiple in being human and wild through movement. Risk, delicacy and joy effervesce the physicalities between performers Kadar Khristan and Jussi Ulkuniemi in a dance of moods dissolving and surfacing. Sound performed by Riku-Pekka Kellokoski accompanies the dancers as they surrender to the rapids of fluid worlds together. Iiris Herttua’s costume design stretches the performativity into the material, while Outi Vedenpää’s sensitive light installation sways time in the performance.
This work is Kaaos Company’s latest collaboration with the working group. Since 2010 Kaaos Company (KC) has developed into a professional company working with different dancers with and without disabilities (31 to date). Choreographers Sally Davison (UK/FI), Maija Mustonen (FI), Georgie Goater (NZ/FI), Matt Shilcock (AU), Katarina Rampackova (SK) and Kati Raatikainen (FI) have all created work for KC. The company has performed nationally in Finland at various festivals (Parafest, Crossover, Anti Festival) and internationally in Iceland, Denmark, Austria and Slovakia. The different profiles of KC’s work brings visibility to inclusive dance in different areas of the public sector and in the professional dance and art fields. KC remains committed to reach new audience demographics and people on the margins, to make dance and art more accessible, while challenging ingrained perceptions of who can and cannot dance professionally.
